NordVPN

Started solo—graphic designer in the Marketing department in 2017, then went remote to Southeast Asia in 2019. The company experienced rapid growth, and suddenly I was leading a team of six (still remotely). I came back and built a Studio, and soon 20+ designers and I were creating work that brought in tons of NordVPN new active users. We were changing the game with our visuals. From a one-person team to riding with the company to unicorn—that’s one heck of a journey.

  • Senior graphic designer → Head of Studio

  • Team management — Leadership — Design management — Graphic design — Creative concept — Design thinking — Reporting and analysis — Visual direction — Brand direction — Content design

  • Earned top peer and team NPS, named Best Marketing Dept. Head of the Half-Year in 2020.

  • I spent almost three years without a brandbook, just trusting my gut. Finally added some consistency with mountains in the background—stuck with it until we built our first brand guidelines.

Exclusive business cards

It started as my passion project when the C-suite attended a major conference in 2018. The idea behind the business card was simple: a small envelope with the slogan "Are you being watched?" to catch partners' attention on security. Once they opened it, they saw the NordVPN logo and "Now you are not."

The backside, with minimal contact info, reflected our focus on privacy and security. The cards were so popular, I forgot to take photos before they were shared. Everyone at the conference kept talking about the clever idea, and the entire concept and execution were done by me.

Our marketing team noticed that the stock photos journalists were using for cybersecurity articles were often off and low quality. So, our Studio was tasked with creating a batch of stock photos to upload to free sites.

Stock photos

Some of them ended up being downloaded thousands of times. I had the opportunity to direct the photoshoots, both at my home and in other studios.

Finally, my team and I created NordVPN's first brandbook.

While external experts helped shape the mission, vision, and archetype, my team took full responsibility for the visual identity. We worked with this brandbook for several years, updating it as new elements emerged. Though NordVPN was later rebranded by an outside studio, the foundation and influence of our work remained.

Although I wore many hats, the experience of growing from a small company to an international unicorn was invaluable. My team and I supported nearly 20 marketing departments, bridging product design with marketing and managing everything from presentations and banners to videos, illustrations, and emails—essentially everything design-related. I’m incredibly proud of the talented Studio I built, with remarkably low staff turnover—a highlight of my time here.
